The Fellowship of Worship Artists

Music & Worship Arts Week 2027

What is Music & Worship Arts Week?

Music & Worship Arts Week (MWAW) is a multi-generational event hosted by The Fellowship of Worship Artists in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina at Lake Junaluska. This annual event is designed for worship leaders, musicians, artists, dancers, actors, and pastors of all denominations who seek education and renewal in a spirit of inclusivity and grace. All are welcome.

MWAW offers participants the opportunity to work with and learn from renowned leaders in the fields of worship arts, make new friends and reconnect with colleagues, be renewed in a beautiful setting, and worship daily in creative and inspiring ways. Music & Worship Arts Week has been described as "one of the most palpable examples of God's artistic gifts at work," and draws people back year after year for new experiences, and then sends them home with endless resources and inspiration.

Our Music & Worship Arts Week 2027 theme is Feast and Fire: An Eastertide Journey to Pentecost.

Fed at the Table. Formed in Love. Fired by the Spirit.

The risen Christ could have chosen any way to be revealed. Christ could have arrived in triumph or with power impossible to deny. Instead, the Risen One chose bread… chose fire… chose a breath of peace... chose a familiar shore and a breakfast shared among friends… chose us.

Again and again, the Easter stories return to these simple gifts: bread broken open, fish shared beside a charcoal fire, a table where weary disciples discover that Christ is already waiting for them. There, in ordinary things made holy, the disciples find both restoration and re-commissioning.

Most of us no longer bake bread from grain we have gathered or kindle fires from wood we have carried. Yet our ancestors in faith understood what it meant to gather around food and flame. They knew that tables create community and that fires draw people close. They knew that resurrection was not merely something to believe, but something to be shared!

The story of Easter did not end at the empty tomb, and the Risen Christ continued to appear: at tables, along roadsides, on the shoreline, in gathered communities of faith. So next year, we will gather at Lake Junaluska to journey from Easter morning's astonishment to the dancing flame of Pentecost. Using lectionary texts for Eastertide 2028, we will reflect on the practices that sustain faith, the relationships that shape discipleship, and the Spirit who continues to send ordinary people into the world bearing extraordinary grace.

So come hungry. Come hopeful! Come ready to gather around the feast and tend the fire.

Together, we will be fed at the table, formed in love, and fired by the Spirit!

At every point throughout the week, you will find yourself surrounded by people who are passionate about creating transformative worship, and uplifting others as they do the same. Ours is a community that grows each year, creating new networks and opportunities to learn from each other and to support one another as the world continues to shift around us. With the exception of rehearsal groups which depend on your attendance to prepare for the concerts, Music & Worship Arts Week is a choose your own adventure event. You will receive from it as much as you choose to take, and you will strengthen our Fellowship by joining us.

Whether you've been coming to Music & Worship Arts Week for decades, haven't been able to join us for a few years, or are brand new to The Fellowship and all that we offer, keep scrolling for an overview of what the week holds for you! We hope to see you at Lake Junaluska, June 21 - 25, 2027!

Who's Leading?

The leadership selected for Music & Worship Arts Week dedicate an entire year prior to our gathering to prepare our for our event. Without their creativity, dedication, and faith-filled leadership, Music & Worship Arts Week would not be the same. Each person brings an array of experience, education, and passion to their offerings and we are able to grow and learn because of their willingness to share their skills and love for God, for teaching, and for music and worship arts. Our leadership team for 2026 includes:*

Monday

Everyone's first official stop on Monday is registration, where you will receive all of the resources needed for the week. Then it is off to the first choral reading session or handbell meet and greet, followed by orientation, another reading session (see below), rehearsals (see below), dinner together, and then an incredible evening of opening worship.

Tuesday / Wednesday

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we come together for morning worship and then disperse to our selected rehearsal groups or renewal sessions. After breaking for lunch, the day's events resume with choral and handbell reading sessions, rehearsals, renewal, seminars, dinner, evening events – a youth talent show on Tuesday, and organ recital and music program on Wednesday – and then finally, our evening prayer service.

Thursday

Thursday is the culmination of our week's work. After morning worship, final rehearsals occur. After lunch, the children's choirs kick off a full day of performances which highlight everything learned throughout the week, and offer praise to the One who called us together as worship artists. The evening is brought to a close with evening prayer.

Friday

Friday's closing worship service sends participants off with a final reminder of what is possible when worship is done really well; and, as more than one person said in their evaluations from last year, enough inspiration to get them through to next summer when we will be together again!

Why Should You Join Us?

One of the most exciting aspects of Music & Worship Arts Week 2026 is that everyone who attends will have access to all five of the worship services we use during our time together. The liturgy. The music selections. The graphics. The altar designs as inspiration. The choreography. Everything. Your worship leadership and teams can customize the services to fit your church context and culture, but the inspiration and the planning will already be prepared! This aspect alone is worth coming for, but it's not all we offer!
